Today we began a week-long adventure of visiting and dining at each Restaurant Makeover contestant’s establishment- it’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it.
So you’re probably asking “But seriously, What is Restaurant Makeover?”
It is a competition among downtown Fresno restaurants where the grand prize winner earns business support and cash to help remodel or “makeover” their downtown restaurant. Running a restaurant is hard work: Cooking, cleaning, customer service, bookkeeping, marketing. Restaurant owners have a lot on their plate and we’re so thankful for the great dining options they bring to our downtown. This is our way to say thanks and to help ensure their continued success.

With grumbling bellies (I don’t think any of us remembered breakfast this morning!) we raced down to Los Panchos as soon as the clock read 10:58 am. We’re doing this all week long at 11 AM, which is good because if it isn’t caffeinated and doused in cream and caramel, I probably haven’t consumed it before 10am.
We have event invites on Facebook for each day this week, so our group of hungry office personnel was joined by the folks from Connecting the Dots Network as well as two retirees looking to see what all of the hype was about.
Soooooo…… I’m just gonna leave you with a few photos of our lunch so you can salivate and wonder why you didn’t join us.

Get to know Los Panchos:
“We know the importance of a downtown in any city, being a part of that is very motivating, especially, being in one of the best locations downtown.”
Los Panchos Mexican Restaurant was formed with a family mindset and with the expectation of bringing the De Alba family out of the fields and into business. This was as true 36 years ago as it is now, and the family gives back to the community when they can, using their location at 1000 Fulton Mall as a home base.
“We have not forgotten our roots, and continue helping those who have not escaped the fields, and its hard work, with annual programs like “Las Cuadrillas” in which we participated in feeding farmworkers, and motivating them to better themselves. “
What make’s Los Panchos unique?
“We serve traditional Mexican food with some American classic items.”
Makeover wish-list

- Focal point in the entrance
If they win, their signature item would be…
“Our signature dishes include traditional Mexican fajitas, so we can add a fajita dish that can celebrate this competition and downtown in general. “
