May Staff Picks

staff picks

The month of May is upon us, officially (well, unofficially I guess if you’re a stickler for what the calender says) ushering in summer weather. What better way than to kick it off with an outdoor food and music festival- Cinco de Mayo? This event has been a downtown favorite for years! Aside from Cinco, however, what is making our staff smile this month? Check it out!

Kim Leonard, Marketing and Communications Manager I’m looking forward to doing a little shopping at the Vintage Pop Up on Tuolumne in front of the Warnors! May 23, 4pm-9pm. They’ve changed the time from morning/afternoon to evening to beat the heat, which I’m pretty excited about. I’m looking to start replacing my old boring and mostly maternity clothes wardrobe (yes, still!) with really rad vintage finds. And everyone knows there’s no better place in Fresno than downtown for awesome and generally affordable vintage! I’ve found more fabulous polyester in the $1 bin at Misc. than Marcia Brady had in her closet!

Gretchen Moore, Executive Director, Downtown Fresno Foundation For me, it’s all about the Fresno Grizzlies! The team is in first place and just won their 7th straight at home. These guys are fun to watch and it’s been great to see so many people showing up to support our team. A sell-out crowd last Saturday night and an amazing lineup of promotions shows that the Grizzlies fans are in for a great season. Personally, I’m looking forward to Middle Child Appreciation Night on August 19!

For tickets, they offer several options for great mini plans, including a very cool partnership with FLYP for a 6-pack that includes 6 game tickets and 6 beer vouchers for the Tioga-Sequoia Beer Garden.

My favorite promo, however might be the Bored of the Board Room deal: $250 for a luxury suite for workday day games. Includes 10 tickets and access to the Phoenix Club. Not a bad deal for $25 so you and your coworkers can play hooky from work!

Don’t get me started on their team store! They have the coolest gear this year:

So many cute things, I can’t stand it!

But the absolute best thing about the Grizzlies is their unapologetic commitment to this city! They are so supportive that they even put an I Believe in Downtown Fresno patch on the right sleeve of their home jerseys!

Fresno City Council Members Soria, Caprioglio, Baines and Brandau join Mayor Swearengin, Aaron Blair (DFP) and Derek Franks (Grizzlies) in supporting downtown Fresno with the Grizzlies.

It’s such an exciting time in Fresno and it’s great to support the home team – especially when they’re winning!
