Restaurant of the Week- Saigon Deli

Posted by DFP Staff

Today the DFP crew took to Saigon Deli, a new spot for downtowners in the space that was formerly Tommy’s.

Cole’s fried Tofu Vermicelli (Bun Chay),Vegetarian Spring Rolls (Goi Cuon Chay) and Coconut Water.

Mitch’s Tommy Classic Cheese Burger with Shrimp Flavored Chips.  Saigon Deli listened to the requests of their customers and kept Tommy’s menu up in his memory.

Gretchen’s Grilled Shrimp and Vermicelli (Bun cha gio tom nuong).

Kim’s (copycat of Cole’s) Vegetarian Spring Rolls and Fried Tofu with Vermicelli.

Rocio’s Grilled Chicken Sandwich (Banh mi ga nuong) with Chili Cheese Fries

Notable moments during our lunch adventures:

  • The place was busy! Our food came out quickly though- Kim hadn’t even gotten through a whole self-centered story about her fiancé before her spring rolls were in front of her. That’s something! Among the other diners we picked out people from FCOE and Club One and a variety of other be-lanyarded employees that we weren’t sure about. Word has gotten out to the workers downtown that a new place is has taken off.  Bonus: They’re open until 6:30 PM so you can grab dinner before you head home if you don’t want to bother with dishes. (Who does?)
  • Mitch told us about these awesome limes he tried at the Food Expo last night. They’re like caviar, but you know, not!
  • While eating, Taylor Swift’s I Knew You Were Trouble started to play, quietly.  So quietly that appartenly Cole and Kim were the only two who heard it and they started dancing in unison, much to the horror of everyone else in the restaurant.
  • This sparked a conversation about the great, life-changing remixes of I Knew You Were Trouble.
  • Which of course, sparked conversation about screaming goats, laughing roosters and poorly executed trust falls.  “The best part is her legs popping back up!” – Gretchen.

You’re welcome for those. Next week join us at Sushi Hana!

Have a great weekend!
